Palomino Family Page

In 1945, Frank Palomino and his wife Irene were one of five families who filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of 5,000 Mexican American students in Orange County, California. The case known today as Mendez et al v. Westminster et al. The Palominos filed the class action lawsuit on behalf of their son and daughter, Arthur and Sally Palomino, against the Garden Grove Unified School District.

Mr. Palomino testified in court about his children stating, “I want to raise them as good Americans, if they give us a chance.” The Palominos in conjunction with the other four families, the Mendez, the Guzman, the Estrada and the Ramirez families would prevail in their joint lawsuit against Westminster, Garden Grove, Santa Ana and El Modena school districts.

Frank Palomino was a League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) charter member of Santa Ana No. 147. He was born on December 6, 1906, and died on April 24, 1999. He and Irene were married over 50 years and had three children, Arthur, Sally, and Frank Jr. and nine grandchildren.
